The Basics: How it Works

We look after clients with investments within personal portfolios, ISAs, trusts, charities and pension funds.

As a client, you will be looked after by two investment managers who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of your investments.  Opening an account is easy and if you already have some existing investments these can be added to your portfolio.

We only offer management of portfolios on a discretionary basis; that is, clients give us authority to invest on their behalf without needing to pre-authorise each change in the portfolio. This allows us to react in a timely way to both market volatility and changes in personal circumstances.

Portfolio Construction: Process

When you first come to us, we will make sure we understand exactly what you want from your investments in terms of income, growth, risk, wealth preservation and time horizon. We also explain the risks of investing, and our reporting and control structures. Our process takes into account four points.

Risk warning: You should remember that the value of investments, whether pooled or direct equities, and the income derived therefrom may fall as well as rise and you may not get back the amount that you invest. In the event that you require a level of income higher than that generated by your portfolio, you should be aware this will dilute the capital value of your portfolio. Past performance is not a guide to the future. If you are in any doubt of the suitability of an investment for your particular circumstances, you should contact an investment manager for tailored advice.

Our Philosophy

"Experience tells us that investment managers like to have a high level of independence over the management of a client’s affairs, and thus allowing them to participate in decisions affecting investments and services bolsters their sense of engagement."

Benchmarks

Every mandate has an independent benchmark against which we compare portfolio performance. Examples of current benchmarks we use include the Cboe UK Equity Market Indices and MSCI PIMFA Private Investor Index Series.

For specialist or bespoke mandates we will agree with you an appropriate benchmark at the outset. For more information on the benchmarks we use and the options available please get in touch.
